We are here to support all of our students
The mission of the Hayes Elementary School Counseling Program is to provide assistance in order to remove barriers that impede student learning and to advocate for an environment that supports the highest academic success individually possible, while enhancing the life skills to produce contributing members of a diverse society.

How do we meet our mission?
Classroom Lessons:
Each class meets once every six days with the counselor as part of the specials rotation. Counselors provide instruction on various social-emotional topics such as problem solving, communication and listening, conflict resolution, making and keeping friends, and cooperation.
Small Groups:
Students may be invited to participate in a small group with a counselor. These are students referred by teachers, parents, or administration. When possible, groups meet during lunch or other non-instructional time periods. Group topics may include conflict resolution, self-regulation of emotions, grief, or changing families. Parent/guardian permission is always needed for a student to participate in a group.
Individual Planning:
Students can meet with a counselor when they are experiencing challenges that affect their ability to be successful in school. A teacher, parent, administrator, or the student themselves can ask to see a counselor. Students needing on-going or intensive counseling will be provided a referral for services outside the school system.
Family Resources:
Counselors can provide referrals for outside counseling, resources on various academic topics, and accessing community resources as needed.
